Protest at the detention center in Minsk ended
Protest at the detention center-1 in Minsk, the participants of which demanded the release of political prisoners, no arrests were made, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.
Earlier, several dozen protesters gathered outside of the detention center-1 in Minsk to demand from authorities to release political prisoners, including ex-banker Victor Babariko who applied for the post of President of Belarus, blogger Sergei Tikhanovski, whose wife believes the opposition is elected at the last August 9 election, the President, and the well-known Belarusian oppositionist Nikolay Statkevich.
The police next observed, the event ended without arrests.
Protesters decided Monday to gather again on the same action.
Mass protest actions of the opposition started in Belarus on 9 August, after the presidential election, which Lukashenka won – according to the CEC, he scored 80.1 percent of the vote. In the early days of the campaign were suppressed by security forces against protesters who disagree with the results, used tear gas, water cannons, stun grenades, and rubber bullets. Then the police stopped to disperse the rallies and enforcement. According to official data, during the first days, more than 6.7 thousand people were arrested. As reported, the interior Ministry, during the riots injured hundreds of people, among them more than 120 law enforcement officers, one protester was killed.
