A us Senator has threatened to introduce sanctions against Lukashenko

The senior Democrat of the foreign Affairs Committee in the U.S. Senate Robert Menendez proposed to count the votes or hold new elections in Belarus.

"The trump must make it clear that the recent achievements in bilateral relations between the US and Belarus will cost nothing, while the Belarusian authorities will not consider exactly the Sunday bulletins or you do not hold elections again in accordance with internationally recognized democratic standards", — said in a written statement Menendez.

"If this violence and the attack on democracy continues, I expect the US and Europe will quickly restore sanctions against (Belarus President Alexander) Lukashenko and his associates," added Menendez.

He called the election a "fraud and a tragedy" and separately noted as unacceptable the arrest of an American citizen Vitaly Shklyarov, who supposedly worked as a consultant in Belarus.

In Sunday have passed elections of the President of Belarus. According to preliminary data of the CEC, Lukashenko is gaining 80,23% of the vote. In the headquarters of his main rival Svetlana Tikhanovski, said to RIA Novosti, they did not recognize the results of the CEC, noting that data from sites in all districts of the Republic show that she scored 70-80%.

On Sunday evening in several cities of Belarus started the mass unauthorized protest. Protesters in Central Minsk erecting barricades out of garbage cans. The militia used against them tear gas, water cannons and stun grenades, and drove the protesters from the city centre. Several people were injured.

Protests continued in the night from Monday to Tuesday. The interior Ministry reported one dead in the center of Minsk.
