A source told the date of commencement of the start-up of unit №1 of the Belarusian NPP

Start loading nuclear fuel into the reactor of unit №1 of the Belarusian NPP is scheduled for Friday, reported RIA Novosti a source familiar with the plans of these works.

Thus will begin the stage of physical start-up unit, said the Agency interlocutor.

Only the reactor core will have to load the 163 fuel assemblies. Then, after a series of operations, followed by the actual physical start - the beginning of a controlled self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction in the active zone of the reactor and output reactor plant at a minimum power level sufficient to control the chain reaction. After that the power of the reactor plant will gradually rise.

Following the stage of physical start-up stage to follow power start-up where the unit will begin to produce electricity and pass it to the network. According to plans, this should happen in the fall. Further ahead the experimental-industrial operation of unit with the gradual release of the design capacity. As previously reported by the Ministry of energy of Belarus, the commissioning of unit 1 of the Belarusian NPP is scheduled for early 2021.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant with two WWER-1200 reactors with total installed electrical capacity of 2,400 MW is being built in Ostrovets (Grodno oblast). For the country's first nuclear power plant selected advanced Russian project generation 3 , which fully meets international norms and IAEA recommendations on safety. The commissioning of power unit No. 2 is scheduled for 2022.
