In Russia eased pregnant punishment for minor crimes

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the Federal law that mitigate a criminal penalty for minor crimes, pregnant women and women with a child in the house at the correctional institution for children under three years.

The corresponding document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

It is envisaged that such women will have the opportunity of parole after serving one quarter of the appointed term.

The same rule will apply to women who have committed a crime as a minor.

The law was developed in accordance with the implementation plan of the National strategy for women in the years 2017-2022.

According to the FSIN, in children's homes in correctional institutions on January 1, 2018 were three women convicted of minor crimes, January 1, 2019 - six, on March 1, 2019 - eight. On January 1, 2019 pregnant women in institutions numbered 17 to March 1, 2019 to 19.
