In the Bundestag proposed a response to threats to the "Nord stream — 2"
The political response of Germany to the threat of sanctions against the "Nord stream — 2" should contain three points: the need of the project, commitment to the interests of the German and European economy and partnership with Russia, told RIA Novosti the head of the German-Russian group in the Bundestag, a Deputy from the party "Alternative for Germany" Robbie Slung.
"The political response must be clear: Yes - the "Nord stream — 2", but the interests of the German and European economy, and Yes - a comprehensive Eastern partnership on mutually beneficial terms, from Dublin to Vladivostok. I personally wish Ms. Merkel and Mr. Maas has shown more courage and creativity in the interests of Germany, and to economic blackmail, no matter where it comes, was explicitly rejected. Most of our people here in Germany, waiting for it," said Slund.
Previously, the need "political response" to the threat of Washington sanctions against companies involved in the construction of the pipeline "Nord stream — 2", said in Vienna head of Austrian oil and gas Corporation OMV Rainer Seele, it was quoted by the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to the Deputy of the Bundestag, "during a very uncertain future," the European Union is "hoping somehow to restore the transatlantic relationship, making more and more concessions to American foreign policy," which "pursues purely economic interests." However, the US tends to consider the EU "more like an expanded market for American natural gas, defence production and high-tech" and not as an ally, acting "through extortion, which really should be regarded as contrary to international law".
Slund added that "Nord stream — 2" must be successfully completed to "give first of all Germany and Europe as important sense of security in the multipolar world which they need to avoid becoming vassals and a springboard for global American economic claims to hegemony".
"It is therefore high time Europe and Germany to give a clear political answer. European interests should not be synonymous with the American national economic interests and security interests, since in the future world order rather multipolar political approaches will lead to a successful dialogue and cooperation. Therefore, the EU should be interested in stable and strategically oriented relations in the East, and especially in Russia. This, of course, involves joint projects such as "Nord stream — 2", - said the MP.
"Nord stream — 2" involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. Against the project actively advocate USA, in the EU promoting its liquefied natural gas, as well as Ukraine and several European countries.
U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced in mid-July that the state Department published recommendations in the framework of the law on counteraction to Russia through sanctions, including the document "Nord stream — 2" and second thread "Turkish stream." These actions put at risk the us sanctions on investments and other actions associated with the Russian export gas pipelines. Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas said that the US neglected the right and sovereignty of Europe, threatening sanctions against the "Nord stream — 2", and that Germany rejects extraterritorial sanctions. The Austrian foreign Ministry also said that the authorities rejected US plans to impose extraterritorial sanctions.
