The carrier rocket "proton-M" launched a telecommunications satellite "Express-80" and "Express-103" in conjunction with the upper stage "breeze-M" on a suborbital trajectory, to be broadcast on the website of Roscosmos.

Rocket "proton" was launched from Baikonur cosmodrome at 00.25 MSK at the second attempt. On Wednesday, the Federal space Agency announced the launch of "Proton" from 30 to 31 July for additional inspections of components and assemblies. Later, the RIA Novosti source in the rocket and space industry said that the reason for the transfer was the observation during the inspections of the control system upper stage "breeze-M".
After separation from the rocket further removal of spacecraft into the target orbit with a minimum height of 16.6 thousand kilometers and a maximum of 54,9 thousand kilometers must be secured at the expense of five engine burns "Breeze". The Department "Express-80" from the upper stage is planned at 18.24 GMT, "Express-103" - at 18.41 Moscow time. Thus, it will be the longest flight in history "Proton" - around 18 hours and 16 minutes.
As missile capabilities do not allow to deliver satellites "Express" to the geostationary orbit (circular orbit with altitude of 35 786 km), then after separation of the "Breeze", "Express-80" will get to her 152 days using its own electric propulsion, and "Express-103" - 160 days.
According to the company "Space communications", the satellites planned to be operational in January-February 2021.
For the rocket "proton" this was the first and only in 2020 start. He also became the ninth space launch in Russia this year.
Send "parlay Bets" into orbit was planned for the end of March, but the missile had to return to Moscow for the replacement of defective components that are discovered at the launch site. According to the newspaper "Vedomosti", it was about the faulty bolts used for fastening pipelines second stage of the rocket. Spacecraft "Express-80" and "Express-103" manufactured by "Information satellite systems named after Reshetnev" in the interests of the enterprise "Space communication" on the basis of satellite platform "Express-1000H". It is expected that they will work for 15 years in geostationary orbit in the setups 80 degrees and 96.5 degrees East longitude respectively. The satellites are designed to provide fixed and mobile communications, digital broadcasting, high-speed Internet access and data transfer in C-, Ku - and L-bands, in Russia and in the CIS countries.
