Guido wants to get points on the suffering of the people of Venezuela, the foreign Ministry said

The idea of unlocking funds in the accounts of the government of Venezuela merit opposition leader Juan Guido - a cynical attempt to score points on the suffering of the people, said Deputy official representative of the MFA of Russia Alexei Zaitsev.

Earlier, the US special envoy for Venezuela Elliott Abrams said that the leader of the Venezuelan opposition Juan Guido and his provisional government soon will allocate assets in the amount of $ 20 million to which they have access in the United States, the pan American health organization and other humanitarian agencies.

"Recently there were reports about the unfreezing of funds in the accounts owned by the government of Venezuela. These funds will be used by the pan American health organization for the procurement of personal protective equipment, and diagnosis, as well as their transportation to Venezuela. We are talking about an amount in the range of 20 million dollars", - he told at a briefing on Thursday.

He recalled that the total volume blocked in the US Venezuelan assets is more than 116 billion dollars.

"Noteworthy is the fact that the release of these funds is served in mainstream media only as a merit Deputy Joan Guido, considering that he welcomed the illegal sanctions and the arrest of the Venezuelan funds in foreign accounts, we believe that current attempts to earn political points on the suffering of the Venezuelan people as at least cynical," - said the diplomat.

In Venezuela at the beginning of 2019 began mass protests against President Nicolas Maduro shortly after the oath of office. Juan Guido, head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, illegally declared himself interim head of state. A number of Western countries led by the US announced its recognition of Guido. In turn, Maduro called the head of the Parliament a puppet of the US. Russia, China, Turkey and several other countries have supported Maduro as the legitimate President.
