Kravchuk to lead a delegation to Kiev in the contact group on Donbass

The ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk agreed to lead a delegation to Kiev on the negotiations of the contact group on settling the situation in Donbas.

"I decided: if I can, and I want to do something to speed up the peace in the Donbass — I'm going to do it until his last breath, that's why I agreed", — quotes the TV channel "Ukraine 24" the words of the policy.

In July, the former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma stopped work in the contact group. Prior to the appointment of the new man it was headed by the first Deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation Alexei Reznikov.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was considered a candidate Reznikov, however, he openly expressed the desire to remain in his current role. According to him, the delegation should be headed "the representative of older age."

The Ukrainian authorities in April 2014 began a military operation against the breakaway LC and the DNI, which declared independence after a coup in Ukraine in February of the same year.

According to the latest UN victims of the conflict were about 13 thousand people.

The settlement of the situation in the Donbass is discussed including during meetings in Minsk the contact group, which from September 2014 adopted three documents regulating the steps to de-escalate the conflict. However, after the armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict continue shooting.
