The German MP said the need to protect the sovereignty of Europe
The economic interests of Europe in connection with the construction of the gas pipeline "Nord stream – 2" is necessary to protect Washington's actions put into question the continuation of a strong partnership, and sanctions against the pipeline are of a pronounced political character, said RIA Novosti Deputy, member of the international Committee of the Bundestag faction of the "Alternative for Germany" Waldemar Gerdt.
Previously, the need "political response" to the threat of Washington sanctions against companies involved in the construction of the pipeline "Nord stream – 2", said in Vienna head of Austrian oil and gas Corporation OMV Rainer Seele, it was quoted by the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to him, "declared U.S. sanctions against the "Nord stream – 2" are not economic, but political character".
"All sensible politicians and economists understand that without additional gas supplies to Europe energy security of not only Germany but all of Europe will fall under question, given the German decision on refusal from nuclear and coal power. We obeskrovlevaniem themselves, refusing resources, and we are forced to renounce the additional resources that are economically and environmentally most advantageous at the moment", he added.
According to Gerdt, forcing Europe to abandon its own economic and strategic interests with the US is undertaken solely in order to "isolate and weaken Russia as a state". Targeted sanctions with the aim to reduce the welfare of the population in Russia, "to impoverished people and protested the" immoral, we are talking "about the fate of people who lose their jobs, children, do not fulfill his dream," said the politician.
"I'm pretty sure that America do not care for the state of the European Union, the main impact of the United States, the victim of which will be for our own interests, aimed against Russia," - said Gerdt, adding that he sees no reason for the fears of Europe to the "rich neighbour, with whom you can trade, work", so initially anti-Russian strategy "imposed from overseas, it should be abandoned, and then we have a future".
"Nord stream 2" involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. Against the project actively advocate USA, in the EU promoting its liquefied natural gas, as well as Ukraine and several European countries.
