The Pentagon called the new Russian submarine "a serious problem"

New Russian submarines and cruise missiles pose a "serious problem" for the United States, said Lieutenant General U.S. air force Glen van Herc.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate Committee on the armed forces, discusses the candidacy of van Herc for the position of commander of the Northern command of the United States (NORTHCOM), in whose sphere of responsibility includes the territory of the country in North America.

"For the past 30 years, our rivals and potential adversaries have watched as U.S. conduct deterrence, how we compete, how you behave during conflicts. They had the opportunity to develop, watching us, in particular, Russia and China in all fields. Russia is developing strategic capabilities, such as submarines, which keep track of now is a serious problem," said van Herc at the hearings in the Senate.

He added that modern submarines provide an opportunity for Russian cruise missiles to threaten the United States and this, too, is "a serious problem".

According to him, China is on same path of development and its armed forces are more able to act as forwarding, that is, away from its territory.
