The Belarusian authorities deliberately scare people, "Maidan", says Tikhanovski

The candidate on a post of the President of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovski said that the current authorities of the Republic of intentionally scare people, "Maidan" and invent "non-existent danger."

"You are afraid, paint a scary picture of the future of Belarus with the new President, you manipulate, invent non-existent dangers, cheat. You are afraid that if you don't choose the current government, there will be a Maidan. Actually, it's not that," said Tikhanovski, speaking on Tuesday with the pre-election program broadcast public television channel "Belarus 1".

According to Tikhanovski, she and her colleagues call people "to the polls, and the government is calling on the Maidan." "We say we want a new President, and the government responds to us, then what will the Maidan. We say that the majority of Belarusians want to live in a free and rich country, and the government has threatened us with independence," said Tikhanovski.

The candidate believes that the people are threatened NATO war, however, "is actually not so." "The independence of Belarus - is our most important value. Sovereignty is our most important value," she said.

According to her, Belarusians also scare the opposition, but in Belarus, "there is no opposition," and "there are a lot of smart, talented, brave and creative people who are not allowed to manage".

In Belarus, the campaign for the presidential election, primary election day scheduled for 9 August. Candidates for the highest office was five people, the current Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko is running for a sixth term. The election campaign is accompanied by the arrests of opposition politicians and activists, as well as unauthorized protests.

Earlier, Lukashenko said that "intensified certain forces which begin to intensificate, rocking the situation in the country" and asked them to choose between democratic and military solutions to the situation. In this case, according to Lukashenko, the authorities managed to make some steps ahead and derail an ambitious plan to destabilize the country.
