The experts commented on the departure of Kuchma, the contact group on Donbass

Care of the ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, the contact group on Donbass will have a negative impact on the settlement of the conflict and will slow down the process, and who will take his place - it's difficult to forecast, according to respondents RIA Novosti experts.

The former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma stopped work in the contact group on conflict settlement in the Donbass, said Tuesday the press service of the office of President Vladimir Zelensky on the results of their meeting.

"Now it may slow down the settlement process for the simple reason that it would not clear the status of the new representative and what he will be. Hard to say, who will now represent Ukraine in the contact group. This is likely to be some kind of compromise personality, on the one hand, not very aggressive, on the other hand - not Pro-Russian, in order not to let the nationalists and radicals to blame Zelensky in the surrender position," - said a member of the Council for interethnic relations under the RF President Bogdan Bezpalko.

As for the reasons for leaving Kuchma, according to Bezpalko, he was under pressure in view of the fact that for a number of political figures and groups in Ukraine itself the Minsk agreement are surrender.

So, as noted by a spokesman for Kuchma's work in the contact group - the extra stress and any acquisitions for a political career.

"It is likely that this step can be interpreted as a new initiative on the part of Ukraine on promotion of the Minsk agreements. Or may be that will choose a figure that is unacceptable for Russia, and then will accuse Russia of disrupting the Minsk agreements," did not rule out Bezpalko in an interview with the Agency.

For his part, Dean of the faculty of world economy and world politics HSE Andrew Suzdaltsev told RIA Novosti that the reason for the departure of Kuchma could be an agreement on ceasefire in the Donbass. "There was information that he feels insecure now that he is dissatisfied with the cease-fire on July 27, he believes that Ukraine has made concessions," said Suzdaltsev.

As the expert noted, to resolve the situation care Kuchma will have negative consequences. "Kuchma was the first Patriarch, the side – Donetsk and Lugansk – also treated him with respect, for a long time knows. In addition, Gryzlov – the representative of Russia as a guarantor of the Minsk agreements – they, too, were familiar. The more that people almost one lap... Now there will be people from the team Zelensky. Zelensky as a true Ukrainian politician makes one step forward, two steps back," he said.

The situation in the contact group will come out of the current impasse only in the case malovozmozhnym geopolitical change, Suzdaltsev believes. At the same time, this format of talks is necessary, he said. "The need for such a mechanism. Live talks are better than war," - said the expert.

Suzdaltsev noted that it is difficult to predict who will take the place of Kuchma. "The Ukrainian elite, revolving around the President Zelensky, is immense. And personnel policy Zelensky defies analysis," he concluded.

Kuchma on 3 June 2019 for a second time headed the Kiev delegation in the contact group on peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbass.
