The candidate on a post of the President of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovski on Sunday held a massive campaign rally in Gomel within the framework of his visits to the cities of the Republic.
The election campaign takes place in Belarus from 14 July to 8 August, the elections scheduled for 9 August. Picket Tikhanovski in Gomel was organized in front of the entrance of the branch "Center of inclusive culture" state institution "City cultural center". Its members, according to various media reports, were from seven to ten thousand people. Addressing the gathering, Tikhanovski traditionally told about her husband – and the new opposition leader Sergei Tikhanovski, about why he decided to run for President, and promised that if elected to the highest office will not stay in this position for a long time, since does not consider himself a politician. Tikhanovski promised within six months to conduct a "re-election", which will be able to participate in so-called alternative candidates, who were detained during the current electoral campaign and recognized human rights activists as political prisoners. "Svetlana, maybe you will be President (if elected – ed.)? People believe you" - he addressed the issue to Tikhanovski one of those present at the picket. To this question the applicant answered in the negative. "I will not be President, it's not mine. Yeah, people believe me, (but) not as a policy, they believe that I will fulfill his promises. I will keep my promise (to hold new elections – ed.)", she said.
Supporting words Tikhanovski, gathered at the picket occasionally chanted "well Done!", "Change", "World!", "I believe we can, we will win!". Candidate, the rally was accompanied by representatives of the staffs of the two former candidates for the presidency, which the Central election Commission for various reasons did not register candidates - former head of Belgazprombank Victor Babariko and former head of the high-tech Park Valery Tsepkalo.
Earlier Tikhanovski teamed up with the staffs of Babariko and Tsepkalo for the subsequent holding of fair elections in the country. Persons of this campaign, in addition to the Tikhanovski, are representative of the headquarters Tsepkalo and his wife Veronica, as well as the representative of a staff of Babariko Maria Kolesnikova.
The elections of the President of Belarus approved five candidates. In the electoral campaign, in addition to the unemployed Tikhanovski, involved the acting head of state Alexander Lukashenko, who is running for a sixth term, former Deputy of lower chamber of Parliament of Belarus Anna Konopacka, co-Chairman of public Association "Tell the truth" Andrey Dmitriev, Chairman of the Belarusian social-democratic "Hramada" Sergey Cerecer.
