The state Department commented on police assault on journalists of the First channel

Washington condemns the violence against journalists, said RIA Novosti in the Department of state in response to a request for comment on the attack on police employees of the First channel in Portland.

"The US is committed to protecting the security of press workers and they will investigate and seek responsibility in cases when someone, including law enforcement officials, will be rightly accused of violating the law," — said the representative office.

The state Department also noted that journalists should not be subjected to threats or physical violence just for doing their job.

Earlier, police attacked the workers of the First channel, which covered the protests in Portland. They filmed a report on the riots, both attacked the journalist was with the badge "Press". Deputy General Director of TV channel Kirill Kleimenov told RIA Novosti that Russians escaped serious injury, but the instrument suffered.

The Russian Embassy in the United States sent the state Department a note of protest. The head of the Embassy Anatoly Antonov called the incident outrageous. The Commissioner for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova also promised to appeal to the UN.

This is not the first case when the American police actions affect journalists. The police acted purposefully. Turgiev and Russell, for example, clearly had the journalists. The foreign Ministry consider the behavior of the American security forces by the manifestation of unwarranted cruelty.
