Between protesters in Catalonia and police clashed

Clashes between supporters of the independence of the Spanish Autonomous community of Catalonia, and law enforcement took place not far from the monastery of Poblet, who on Monday visited the king of Spain Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.

In the morning, supporters of independence gathered in the municipality of rural Masia font de Francoli, located three kilometers from the monastery, and headed to the colony under the slogan "in Catalonia there is no king."

Several dozen people tried to go directly to the monastery, the road was blocked by law enforcement. Clashes, police used batons. At least one person was detained. Video of the clashes posted organizations advocating for the independence of Catalonia.

However, as reported by TVE, a few people were still able to approach the monastery closer.

In the morning, unknown persons set fire to tyres on the high-speed rail in another area of the Autonomous community, on the route from Figueres to Barcelona – why the train was stopped and not resumed until now.

The visit of the head of state is held in the framework of his visit, all the Autonomous communities of the country in the aftermath of the epidemic of the coronavirus COVID-19. The protests are also linked to the outbreak of the corruption scandal surrounding the father of Felipe VI, king Juan Carlos, in respect of which the investigating Prosecutor of the Supreme court of Spain because of the possible income to Swiss Bank accounts $ 100 million in 2008 from the Saudi Royal family in connection with the contract for the construction of high speed railway between Mecca and Medina.
