Firefighters put out the fire in the Cathedral in Nantes

. The fire in the Cathedral of Nantes extinguished, there is no risk of collapse or it is minimal, but firefighters will remain on location and night, said a fire brigade spokesman of the Department of the Loire-Atlantique Lieutenant-Colonel jérôme Langlois.

"The fire has been extinguished, but the operations (in the Cathedral - ed.) continues", - he told on air of TV channel BFMTV.

He noted that the debris can be found elements that are important for the investigation and the subsequent reconstruction of the Cathedral.

According to him, "currently, the risk of collapse inside the Cathedral there or it is quite small". However, Langlois reported that the fire can remain in place and night for the necessary work.

The fire occurred on Saturday morning. The fire was completely destroyed, in particular, a large body of the Cathedral. The Prosecutor's office of Nantes announced the launch of the investigation on suspicion of intentional arson of the Cathedral.

At the place arrived the Prime Minister of France Jean Castex, the interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and culture Minister roselyne Bachelot. The head of government expressed gratitude to the firefighters for their professional and effective work in extinguishing fires and in solidarity with the people of Nantes and the Catholic community. Castex called for the restoration of the Cathedral as fast as possible.
