Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Chinese foreign Minister

The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov during telephone conversation with his counterpart Wang Yi told him about the dialogue of Russia and the USA on problems of arms control in the context of the objectives of maintaining strategic stability, said Friday the Russian foreign Ministry.

"Sergei Lavrov informed the colleague about the ongoing dialogue between Russia and the USA on problems of arms control in the context of the objectives of maintaining strategic stability," - said the Russian depodesta on the results of talks between the two Ministers.

In addition, as noted, in the course of the conversation the Ministers discussed a number of topical issues of bilateral and international agenda, including preparations for the summit of the States permanent members of the UN security Council, the situation in the sphere of global security, the situation in various regions of the world, the integration processes on the Eurasian continent, the activities of the SCO and BRICS this year under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation.

The contract on reduction of strategic offensive arms (start -3), signed in 2010, is the only existing agreement between Russia and the USA on the limitation of armaments. The agreement expires in February 2021, while Washington has not announced any plans to renew it.

The US administration at different levels emphasizes the need for the inclusion of China in the negotiation of a new trilateral nuclear agreement between Russia, China and the United States. In Beijing, this idea is rejected. The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia supports the extension of the contract about SNV-3 without preconditions.

In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin came up with the idea of holding a summit of the countries of "nuclear five" - the five permanent members of the UN security Council (Russia, USA, China, UK and France). In his opinion, necessary conversation about the issues of preserving peace, strengthening global and regional security, control of strategic weapons, as well as on joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and other major challenges and threats. The interest in it expressed all members of the group. The decision about the date and place of the summit of the "nuclear five" will take after approval of the agenda, said the foreign Ministry.
