Ischinger commented on the US threats to the "Nord stream — 2"
The head of the Munich security conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, commented on the situation around the US sanctions against the gas pipeline project "Nord stream 2".
"U.S. trade with Russia is OK, and the trade of Germany with Russia - not OK?" - wrote Ischinger on Twitter, responding to a message former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenelle.
The former Ambassador had earlier wrote on Twitter that the issue of sanctions against the "Nord stream 2" "this is not about trade, but about the diversification of energy supplies to Europe." Thus, according to Grenelle in the US "happy "Nord stream 1", a certain amount of Russian gas must be a part of". In the matter concerning restrictive measures in respect of future deliveries of Russian gas, "the majority of Europeans agree with the United States" and only "the German government is fighting against Europe," wrote the former Ambassador.
U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced on Wednesday that the state Department published recommendations in the framework of the Law on combating the enemies of America through sanctions, including the document "Nord stream 2" and second thread "Turkish stream." These actions put at risk the us sanctions on investments and other actions associated with the Russian export gas pipelines. Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas said that the US neglected the right and sovereignty of Europe, threatening sanctions against the "Nord stream 2", and that Germany rejects extraterritorial sanctions. The Austrian foreign Ministry also said that the authorities rejected US plans to impose extraterritorial sanctions.
