Trade between Russia and Germany loses around 20 billion US dollars annually from the EU sanctions, said RIA Novosti trade representative of the Russian Federation in Germany Andrey Sobolev, commenting on the statement of the Eastern Committee of German economy.

"Nord stream 2" involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. He added that, according to FCS, with 2014 for six years, the decline in German-Russian trade compared to pre-crisis 2013. In 2016 and 2017, respectively, the loss amounted to 34.2 and 24.9 billion dollars, in 2018, the situation has leveled off, and fall to $ 15.2 billion. Sobolev also noted that, according to the FCS, 2017 in the trade turnover between Russia and Germany, again experienced growth compared to the previous year, it amounted to 22.7%. This trend continued in 2018 when the growth amounted to 19.5%. However, in 2019 the turnover again declined slightly - by 10.9%.
Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine and around the Crimea, which reunited with Russia after a referendum on the Peninsula. The West is accusing Russia of meddling, have imposed sanctions, Moscow responded, took a course on import substitution and has repeatedly said that talking with her in language of sanctions counterproductive.
