Lyudmila Vorobyeva: Indonesians are very interested in Russia

This year was the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia. Over seven decades of cooperation between the two countries has experienced periods of UPS and downs, but never stopped. The current stage of relations between the two countries is a period of recovery and transition towards a strategic partnership, said Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Ludmila Vorobyova. About the present and future cooperation between the two countries, the diplomat told the RIA Novosti correspondent Yevgeny Belenky.

— This anniversary, we came up with a solid track record of achievements. Repeatedly met the presidents of our countries Vladimir Putin and Joko Widodo, in particular, in Sochi and in 2016 in Singapore in 2018. April 13 this year between the two leaders had a telephone conversation, the main theme of which became joint steps in the fight against the pandemic coronavirus. Actively developing political dialogue at all levels, cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, international information security and military-technical cooperation, education and culture, there is close collaboration in international Affairs. In General we can say that the Russian-Indonesian relations are currently on the rise. I am convinced that in the future our joint efforts will be aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial ties between Russia and Indonesia for the benefit of our peoples and in the interests of strengthening peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.

The accumulated potential of bilateral relations, their confidential nature, views on what is happening in the world creates a good basis for the derivation of the interaction on the level of strategic partnership. Unfortunately, the pandemic COVID-19 delayed plans for signing by the presidents of Russia and Indonesia in the Declaration, but I have no doubt that the event will occur as soon as an opportunity arises.

— At the end of 2019 the Russian-Indonesian turnover exceeded two billion U.S. dollars. Of course, this is not enough, especially given existing both countries have considerable resources and interest in expanding cooperation. The search of perspective directions of development of cooperation conducted in the framework of the Russian-Indonesian joint Commission on trade-economic and technical cooperation under the leadership of co-chairs of the Minister of industry and trade of Russia Denis Manturov and the Minister-coordinator for economic Affairs of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto and functioning under its auspices of several working groups.

In the territory of Indonesia is implementing a number of joint investment projects. The most famous of them is the construction of a refinery in East Java province along the line of PJSC "NC "Rosneft". Good opportunities for cooperation in the context announced by Indonesian President Widodo plans to move the capital to the province of East Kalimantan.

In addition, among the promising areas of cooperation include energy, aircraft and shipbuilding, industrial cooperation and high technologies and more.

— High level of mutual trust creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of cooperation in military and military-technical fields. The Minister of defence of Indonesia, a Prabowo Subianto twice since the beginning of the current year visited Russia. In June, at the invitation of Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, he attended the military parade on red square dedicated to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the great Patriotic war. Regular meetings are held the Supreme command of the Russian troops participating in multilateral exercises in Indonesia.

In October 2019, a plan was developed for Russian-Indonesian military cooperation to 2020, which, in particular, involves the implementation of visits of Russian Navy ships in ports of Indonesia, conducting military exercises, meetings of representatives of the armed forces. I hope that under the pandemic coronavirus infection situation will be realized.

An important component of the defense cooperation remain the delivery of Russian weapons and military equipment. As you know, in 2018, Indonesia has signed a contract for the purchase of 11 multi-purpose su-35, on which negotiations are currently ongoing.

Overall good quality of Russian technology and its competitive cost, provides high interest on the part of our Indonesian partners. In this regard, Russia remains one of the main arms suppliers to Indonesia.

With particular satisfaction I would like to note the development of humanitarian ties. In October 2018 was launched regular direct flights on the route Moscow-Denpasar-Moscow carried out by the company "Russia". In particular, due to this, in recent years the number of Russian tourists visiting Indonesia increased two times, reaching in the last year 160 thousand people.

Aktiviziruyutsya cultural exchanges. So, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations was marked by the holding of the National gallery, Jakarta exhibition of works by Russian artists of the "Necklace of the equator", which examined more than 5 thousand people. In turn, in Moscow annually hosts the "Festival of Indonesia", the caller continued interest among Muscovites and guests of the capital.

Great potential exists in the field of education. The government of the Russian Federation provides more than 160 scholarships for Indonesian students study in Russian universities, but are interested in receiving an education in our country far exceeds this quota. Today in Russian universities are trained more than 600 citizens of Indonesia.

Pleased that a growing number of Indonesians with interest and attention to Russia, its history and culture, actively visiting our country, learn its customs and traditions form their own opinion about it.

— Since the appearance of the first infected in Jakarta in March, the Indonesian authorities immediately began to take measures to prevent further spread of coronavirus infection in the country. Gradually introduced a variety of restrictions, including on transport.

At the time of termination by Russia of international flights in Indonesia, especially in Bali, there were about six thousand of our countrymen, many of whom had expired visas. Thanks to the efforts of the Embassy, local immigration went to meet the Russians stuck here, abolishing penalties for violation of visa regime. During these months, Russian airlines had carried out 14 flights of export, which allowed a greater part of the citizens to return home. Many of those who were in a difficult situation, was provided financial assistance. Fortunately, none of the Russians residing in Indonesia, the coronavirus infection have been identified.
