MP called "the duel" on the Russian counterpart of the "public Servants"
Co-Chairman of fraction of party "European solidarity" the former President of Petro Poroshenko in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko said that called "the duel" in the Russian language the author of the bill abolishing the compulsory study 80% of subjects in Ukrainian schools on the state language, the MP from the faction "people's Servant" Maxim Bogunskogo.
The bill provides for amendments to the laws on language and on education and transfers from 2020 to 2023, the transition of Russian for 5-11 classes on teaching in the Ukrainian language. The author of the bill is a member of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada concerning law enforcement and a Deputy of the "servant of the people" Maxim Buzhansky. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on issues of human and information policy recommended to reject the bill. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Razumkov earlier reported that the Ukrainian Parliament on Friday will consider this document.
Gerashchenko said that Ukraine nobody forbids knowing and using different languages, including Russian, but the state should be only the Ukrainian language.
In addition, she noted that she grew up in a "bilingual family" and studied in Russian school. But at University, her friends convinced her to go to communicate in the Ukrainian language.
In may 2019 the then President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law "On ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language", which provides for the exclusive use of the Ukrainian language in almost all spheres of life. Prior to the adoption of the law on TV and radio stations operated quota at 50% of the use of the Ukrainian language, now the quota rose to the level of 90%.
