The Verkhovna Rada appointed Shevchenko head of the national Bank of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on proposal of President Vladimir Zelensky was appointed Chairman of the state "Ukrgasbank" Kirill Shevchenko, head of the National Bank of the country, the decision on the meeting of Parliament on Thursday supported 332 deputies with the required minimum of 226 votes.

According to the new head of the national Bank for the last six years the national Bank has passed the way of institution building, with the support of international partners had built an independent Central Bank, which ensures the macroeconomic stability of the banking system and the economy.

He added that the national Bank will continue to pursue measures to improve the financial stability of banks, in particular, will continue to work with problem loans banks, which make up 40%.

Shevchenko heads the UGB in may 2015. From December 2006 to may 2009, he headed the State mortgage institution, and from may 2009 to September 2009 - Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko. In 2012-2014 he worked as the adviser of the Chairman of the Board of "Oschadbank" (the savings Bank).

Earlier, Yakov Smoliy, who served as head of the national Bank from March 2018, wrote a letter of resignation, explaining that "systematic political pressure" on the Bank, and filed with the President. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the proposal Zelensky Smoliy was fired from the post of head of the regulator. Resin after the dismissal expressed the view that his resignation will not affect the cooperation with the IMF, since we are talking about working "with institutions, not personalities". Under Ukrainian law, Parliament appoints and dismisses the head of the national Bank on the proposal of the President.
