The expert explained the importance of the future launch of the new unit of Leningrad NPP-2

AES-2006 is designed in the XXI century the nuclear power plant project so-called generation 3 with improved technical and economic indicators. The units of this project have now become the main export product of the state Corporation "Rosatom" - they already planned to build in different countries.

Work on preparation for launch of power unit No. 2 of Leningrad NPP-2 has entered the final stage, soon to begin loading nuclear fuel into the reactor, as long as the unit successfully completed the audit of the basic equipment of the reactor plant.

As reported by the office of information and public relations of Leningrad NPP, the experts made a survey and assessment of the main technological equipment of the reactor plant VVER-1200. The results of numerous checks have confirmed that the unit is ready for loading nuclear fuel in its reactor.

Immediately after this audit, the unit starts the stage of physical start-up, during which the reactor core will be alternately loaded 163 fuel assemblies with nuclear fuel. This will be the start of the so-called stage of physical start-up of the unit. Then followed the beginning of a controlled self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction in the reactor - the actual physical start, then energy start - start the issuance of a unit of electricity in the network, trial operation and complex testing of the unit at rated power. All this is scheduled to be completed within this year. The commissioning of the new power unit is scheduled for early 2021.

Earlier it was reported that before the loading of nuclear fuel in reactor unit No. 2 of Leningrad NPP-2 took custody of the troops of Regardie.

Leningrad nuclear power plant - branch of JSC Concern Rosenergoatom (part of Rosatom), located in the town of Sosnovy Bor, 40 kilometers West of St. Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. SELA is the largest in Russia with total installed electrical power (4200 MW) and the only two types of reactors: in operation there are three operating unit RBMK-1000 (uranium-graphite nuclear reactors of channel type on thermal neutrons electrical capacity of 1000 MW) and one unit of 3-generation VVER-1200 (water-water energetic reactor with capacity of 1200 MW) are also classified as unit No. 1 of Leningrad NPP-2.

Leningrad NPP is the largest producer of electricity in the North-West of Russia. Its share in total generation is 30%. Thanks to the work of the four power units of LAES in Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad region burning every second light bulb.
