Seoul TikTok fined for illegal data collection of minors

The Korean communications Commission (KCC) decided to fine the Chinese app TikTok 186 million won (almost 155 thousand USD) for illegal collection and transfer abroad the data of the minor user.

As reported on the website of the Commission on the results of the 41st meeting in 2020, the app violated the law on the protection of personal information, collecting the data of minors without the permission of their legal guardians.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald trump has confirmed that Washington is considering to ban the work on the territory of the country Chinese apps TikTok. Washington believes that personal user data is transmitted to the Chinese authorities. Amazon, according to some media reports, has asked its employees to remove the Chinese app TikTok from their mobile phones, citing risks associated with security.

TiKTok is the app for creating and viewing a short video, owned by Chinese company ByteDance. Released in 2018, it is the leader in the segment of applications for short videos in China and is gaining popularity around the world.

According to the tracker WiseApp, in December last year the app had 3.4 million users in South Korea.
