Human rights defenders reported arrests at protest in Belarus

In different cities of Belarus have started to detain participants of the spontaneous protest actions, do not agree with the refusal to register presidential candidates Victor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo.

This was reported not registered by the authorities of the Republic of the human rights center "Spring".

According to him, the arrest began at about 20:00 in Minsk, Gomel, Brest, Soligorsk, Bobruisk and other cities. Among the detainees are journalists.

Earlier, the Ministry urged residents of the Republic not to succumb to coming from abroad, calls to participate in unauthorized mass events. It noted that these actions will be stopped in accordance with the laws of the Republic.

Presidential elections in Belarus scheduled for 9 August. The Central election Commission at the meeting of July 14, has registered five candidates, the former head of Belgazprombank, Babariko and the former head of administration of the Park of high technologies Tsepkalo registration refused.

Incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko is running for a sixth term.

Passing the campaign was accompanied by arrests of supporters of candidates for President, an alternative to Lukashenko.

As reported, the interior Ministry, mainly related to violation of legislation on mass events and the organization of actions violating public order, but human rights organizations see this as a political motive. Most of the detainees are punished fines and administrative detention. With more than two dozen people, including politicians, bloggers and opposition activists are under investigation in criminal cases, they are recognized as human rights defenders as political prisoners.
