Climate change leading to emergency situations, have become one of the key factors to Russia's security, said assistant Secretary of the Russian security Council Alexander Abilene.
"Significant negative consequences, which began to exert a dangerous hydro-meteorological phenomena on the economy and the normal life of the population, determined the necessity of considering climate change as one of the key long-term factors of safety of Russia and thus caused the necessity of improving the system of provision of hydrometeorological security," said Abilene.
This issue was considered by the interdepartmental Commission of the security Council on environmental security, which includes representatives of all interested Federal Executive bodies, he added.
"It was noted that these goals primarily require improving the effectiveness of the system of observation, assessment and forecast of dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena, as well as informing about threat of natural and manmade phenomena. This requires the modernisation and expansion of a ground hydrometeorological observation network, the increase of the number of points of the state observation network, taking into account geographical characteristics of the territory to the required standards of the density of observation points, as well as additional technical equipment modern equipment," - said the assistant to Secretary SB.
In the future, these measures should be supported by the development of air and space components of the national system of monitoring and forecasting hydrometeorological phenomena, added to the Abilene.
