Gas imports to Ukraine from the European Union surpassed the record of 2014

Gas imports to Ukraine from the EU has reached 70 million cubic meters per day, this is a record figure in 2014, when the country is still imported gas from Russia, said Saturday the head of the LLC "Operator GTS of Ukraine" Sergey Makogon.

"Gas imports from the EU reached 70 million cubic meters a day. This is a record since 2014, when there were import from Russia," - he wrote in Facebook.

According to him, such a significant capacity increase, import has become possible thanks to the creation of virtual points on the borders with Poland and Hungary, as well as the launch of virtual reverse.

"Last year the maximum capacity to import does not exceed 66 million cubic meters per day and was limited to existing infrastructure. Now with the virtual reverse imports may reach 170 million cubic meters per day," he said.

Makogon said that most of the import is a seasonal injection in underground gas storage. "If two years ago the main part of the gas pumped "Naftogaz", but this year significant amounts injected a European company. And this is significant additional income to the budget of Ukraine", - said the head of the company.

Earlier, the press service of the company reported that Ukraine 24% increased gas imports in the first half of 2020 compared with the same period of 2019.

Ukraine stopped buying gas from Russia in November 2015 and then did not use Russian fuel in preparation for the heating season by pumping into storage gas purchased on the reverse in Europe.
