Pushkov ridiculed the idea of his son Brzezinski to accept Ukraine and Georgia into NATO
Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the proposal by Jan Brzezinski to accept Ukraine and Georgia into NATO.
The son of a famous scientist and ideologist of the cold war, Zbigniew Brzezinski, in his speech in the house of representatives urged Washington to do more to facilitate the accession of Kiev and Tbilisi in the Alliance. This decision, in his opinion, can contribute to "combating" of Russia.
"The Apple from the tree", — wrote Pushkov in Twitter.
The MP noted that the proposed Brzezinski the decision would greatly increase the risk of conflict between Russia and NATO. Thus, according to Pushkov, in Berlin and Paris seek to avoid such a scenario and don't want to add Ukraine to the Alliance.
In 2016 in Ukraine at the legislative level determined NATO membership a foreign policy goal. In February last year, the policy of rapprochement with the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union fixed in the Constitution.
In June, Ukraine received the status of a NATO partner with enhanced capabilities. It is expected that the members will help her in the reform of the army, security, strengthening civilian control and democratic oversight, as well as in the fight against corruption.
As noted by Deputy foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, this step testifies to the fact that the Alliance has not adapted to the new security environment and feels comfortable only when he has a big enemy. In the state Duma also stressed that the new status of Ukraine has nothing to do with full membership in NATO and is not associated directly with the deployment of armed contingents. In the Kremlin, commenting on the decision, said that closely related to the approximation of the military infrastructure of the Alliance towards the Russian border and forced to take appropriate measures to ensure security. Thus a press-the Secretary of President Dmitry Peskov said that NATO was originally created as a mechanism of confrontation.
