The KKE condemned the decision of Turkey's Hagia Sophia
The Communist party of Greece (KKE) said the decision of Turkey to make the Hagia Sophia a mosque is provocative and offensive.
The state Council of Turkey annulled the decision of 1934 the transformation of Hagia Sophia into a Museum. Immediately after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he had signed a decree about the transformation of the Cathedral into a mosque and the beginning of Muslim worship there.
"The decision to turn the Hagia Sophia, a world heritage site, the mosque was approved by the Erdogan government and is another step in the escalation of Turkish provocations," - said in a release sent to RIA Novosti the press service of the CNG.
"From this point of view, this action is not only a direct insult to the character of St. Sophia, is like trying to imagine those who condemn in words, but is a link in the overall strategy of the Turkish ruling class, which is supported by the attitude and plans of the United States, NATO and the EU in the region", - said the Communist party.
