Chaos in America helped Europe to address the issue of "North stream — 2"

The Saga of building the "Nord stream — 2" is nearing its logical end, and the plot thickens: defense Minister of Germany has to answer the charges that earned gas money to Russia "will be able to spend on military purposes".

Associated aggravation with the fact that the Danish energy Agency was allowed to use for laying the remaining half a hundred kilometers of pipes vessels with anchor positioning. In this case, and the fact of issuance of the permit, and the terms in which it was made, point to the fundamental geopolitical changes.

To understand the significance of this event, we need to remember history.

SP-2 from the very beginning has faced unprecedented resistance from the United States and their faithful European satellites such as Poland. Private commercial project ("Nord stream" built is not the States but the pool of companies) in the international arena persistently fed as politically motivated and putting the Old world in the direct energy dependence on Russia. The French company Engie, Austria's OMV, British-Dutch Shell and the German Wintershall and Uniper, collectively invest in the project six billion euros, tirelessly repeated that the gas thread from Russia has a purely practical significance for industry and Economics of the European leaders, but their words were lost in the information wave, launched by opponents.

The first requests for the laying of gas pipeline operator Nord Stream 2 start to file in 2017, and permits from Germany, Sweden and Finland were obtained without much difficulty. The most problematic area was Denmark, through the territorial waters of which it was necessary to build 147 kilometres of pipes.

Denmark is already maximally delayed the issuance of the original permit. In the autumn of 2019, the same the Scandinavian country received from Nord Stream 2 of the construction project, took a break and pulled with the decision to the last. Permission for laying of pipes to the South-East of the island of Bornholm were issued exactly on the 61st day of the filing requirements following the expiration of the maximum term. To understand how difficult was the process, you need to know that the results of such default permission is the responsibility of the Danish energy Agency (DEA), but, following in the footsteps of American policy, the Danish government banned the DEA to address this issue and referred it to the Ministry of foreign Affairs, translating SP-2 from the plane of the economy in a purely political direction. It is the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Denmark and waited in full compliance with the political position of Washington.

"Gazprom" and the foreign investors who have invested in the construction of billions of euros, began to look for ways out of the impasse. From the Far East were withdrawn laying vessel "Akademik Chersky", aid which mobilized the barge "Fortuna". The complexity of their application was the fact that the United States imposed new sanctions banning international companies to insure the activities of these vessels, and the key problem is that "fortune" is not equipped, according to the requirements of the dynamic positioning system, that is, geolocation and auto steering. And to obtain permission for the use of a ship with anchor positioning was only possible in Denmark. The country, which has the most complicated implementation of the project.

It is noteworthy that in this time in Copenhagen, having a legitimate reason to consider four weeks, managed just two. "Fortuna" will be able to get to work in the territorial waters of Denmark after four weeks, prescribed by the legislation for appeal against the decision. If you open the calendar and tally up the numbers, the Russian barge will be able to begin work on August 3. By a strange coincidence, this day marks the end of the spawning period of cod, when any action in marine waters is strictly prohibited.

The goodwill of Denmark is probably due to two factors. First, the fact that the United States deeper into the civil protests and the leadership of the world leader more concerned about the upcoming November elections than foreign policy. Additionally suffers and the American oil and gas industry — pandemic COVID-19 brought down the sale of hydrocarbons and to predict the horizon of market recovery is now not taken one. Removed, the US has frozen a record 540 million barrels of oil, besides only in July canceled 45 LNG shipments of American manufacturing. Is it any wonder that the White house has more pressing issues than creating difficulties for the Baltic gas pipeline?

As soon as from the scheme of European politics American factor fell, everything fell into place and became subject to the logic and interests of economic locomotives. Germany, the main beneficiary of the pipeline construction does not mince words and bluntly, the pipeline will be completed, no matter what. Usually restrained Angela Merkel calls for sanctions against SP-2 "are not relevant to the understanding of issues of law", and the head of the Bundestag Committee on Economics and energy Klaus Ernst said the willingness of Berlin to impose counter-sanctions, if America cannot get enough.

It is from this combination of factors grows complaisance of Denmark. America is far away and is now much more concerned about the election and the BLM, unrest, and Germany (and with it Austria and France) next and she is very interested in getting Russian gas, the only reliable and environmentally friendly fuel, the more desirable compared to the systematic refusal of Germany from nuclear energy and coal.

It's funny that the internal problems of the States not merely provided an opportunity for loyal associates of Washington to implement profitable projects, but more and more withdrawn from Europe under American diktat. And to blame Russian gas.
