In the Orenburg region the case of the smuggled turtles brought to trial

A case of smuggling more than four thousand tortoises will be considered in court in the Orenburg region, reported the official representative of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia Irina Wolf.

In October of 2019, it was reported that more than four thousand turtles illegally imported from Kazakhstan, found in a garage in Orenburg. This species of reptiles protected by the "Convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora", listed in the Red book of the Russian Federation.

Police, with the participation of Regardie managed to detain the suspects – they were the citizen of one of the countries of Central Asia and a Russian citizen.

Wolf added that more than two months for turtles was observed by the specialists of the veterinary faculty of the Orenburg state agrarian University. In addition, in December last year, animals were transferred to two companies - the members of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Russia, she said.
