The source said that UNESCO can abolish the title of goodwill Ambassador

Russian artists, athletes and public figures, as well as their foreign counterparts in the near future can lose the status of goodwill ambassadors, artists for peace and Champions for sport, UNESCO, reported RIA Novosti a source in the organization familiar with the situation.

According to the source, the intention to abolish the title of goodwill Ambassadors due to the fact that "the title received by many, and the results of their work are not very visible, they do not provide reporting on its activities".

In 2014, the message on the website of UNESCO on the rank of the Russian pianist Denis Matsuev said: "the goodwill Ambassadors of UNESCO is a group of public figures putting their name and fame in the service of UNESCO's ideals... They contribute to the expansion and success of UNESCO's mission, generously devoting their talents and social influence to attract world attention to the activities of the organization."

Honorary titles of UNESCO, in addition to Matsuev, in different years were awarded to the sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, journalist Vitaly Ignatenko, the poet Alexander Ochirova, singer Alsu and Zara, hockey player Vyacheslav Fetisov, conductor Valery Gergiev and Vladimir Spivakov and others.
