The foreign Ministry of Belarus praised the role of the Treaty on open skies
The Belarussian foreign Ministry regrets the U.S. decision to withdraw from the Treaty on open skies, said the role of the Treaty in building confidence between the two countries, said Monday the head of the Department of international security and arms control of the foreign Ministry of the Republic Vasily Pavlov.
As reported the press service of the Belarusian foreign Ministry, Pavlov took part in the conference of the States parties to the Treaty on open skies examines the consequences of the US withdrawal from the Treaty. In the event, which was held by video conference, was attended by the representatives of 34 countries.
"The representative of the foreign Ministry of Belarus expressed regret at the U.S. decision to withdraw from the Treaty on open skies. Stressed the vital role of DON in the architecture of European security and arms control and its contribution to enhancing transparency and predictability in the military sphere and the strengthening of trust between States parties", - said the press service.
The foreign Ministry also noted that in his speech, Pavlov called upon to solve the existing problems through professional, equitable and mutually respectful dialogue in the framework of the Advisory Commission on open skies, which is specially created for consideration of issues related to compliance with the provisions of the Treaty. The diplomat also expressed the readiness of Minsk to work constructively to improve the efficiency and enhance the viability of the Treaty on open skies with all its States parties.
