The interior Ministry of Belarus explained the reasons for the detention of the participants

The Ministry of internal Affairs of Belarus in response to the complaints of citizens posted on its website a message in which he explained the reasons for the detention of several participants of the mass events during the presidential campaign.

"The interior Ministry received complaints of citizens about the reasons and legal grounds for the detention of participants of mass events during the election campaign, and also providing recommendations to ensure the protection from possible illegal actions we Consider necessary to inform that in accordance with article 61 of the Electoral code of the initiative group on collecting signatures for nomination of presidential candidates... without getting any permissions to hold public events only in the form of picketing in places not prohibited by local Executive and administrative bodies", - stated in the message.

According to the Agency, in other cases, the order of organizing and holding assemblies, meetings, street processions, demonstrations, picketing and other activities defined by the law "On mass events". The interior Ministry noticed that the citizens taking part in such activities, must strictly comply with the order of their organization and conduct, prohibitions and restrictions.

"The performance of duty on protection of a public order, as a rule, organized in the prescribed form of clothing. However, based on the specifics of the tasks, the Manager can make a decision on the execution of duties by employees in civil clothes, which does not contradict the current legislation", - said the interior Ministry.

The Department also informed that a police officer may in the prescribed manner to apply physical force and special means. When referring to the citizen employee of the internal Affairs bodies shall be submitted, to submit their title and surname. "However, these requirements do not apply to cases of necessity for the immediate suppression of offences, detention of persons, committed them, and trying to hide, - the Ministry added.

Earlier, in the period of collection of signatures in support of nomination of candidates for the presidential elections scheduled for August 9, the pickets in different cities of Belarus were queues of people fighting in support of candidates for the top state post, an alternative to the incumbent Alexander Lukashenko. Authorities said that the pre-election pickets turned into unauthorized rallies. At the end of the period of collection of signatures of people also lined up in different cities in the "chain of solidarity", thus supporting the alternative policy.

The largest actions took place on June 19. In a press-service of the interior Ministry of Belarus, RIA Novosti reported that in one day approximately 270 citizens were arrested in various cities because of the violation of order of holding mass actions and disobedience to police officers.
