Lithuania gave Russia a note for information on the oil platform

The Lithuanian foreign Ministry gave the Russian Embassy verbal note in connection with the appeared, according to the Ministry, free information on major environmental violations on offshore oil platform D-6 on the continental shelf of the Baltic sea, reported on the website of the foreign Ministry.

"The third of July, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Lithuania handed over to the Russian Embassy in Vilnius verbal note in response to recent publicly available information about serious environmental violations at the offshore platform D-6 on the continental shelf of the Baltic sea", - stated in the message.

As noted in the foreign Ministry, the note expresses "deep concern at the environmental damage identified by Rosprirodnadzor for oil field D-6". In addition, the foreign Ministry requested more detailed information and clarification about the investigation conducted by Rosprirodnadzor, as well as possible environmental incidents on offshore platform, which could damage the ecosystems of the Baltic sea and its coastal areas.

As specified on the website, built and launched into operation in 2004, oil field Kravtsovskoye (D-6) located in the Russian sector of the Baltic sea, just 5 kilometers from the Lithuanian-Russian state border and 22.5 km from the UNESCO world heritage site – the Curonian spit.

"The question of proper maintenance of offshore platforms is of particular importance for Lithuania in connection with the environmental impact and damage that can result from environmental accidents caused by improper operation," - said the foreign Ministry of Lithuania.
