ROC explained the deprivation of chiyoumen Sergius Sana
Do in the service of Abbot Sergiy (Romanov) have ignored all calls by the Church to stop his public activity and was therefore defrocked, reported RIA Novosti Deputy head of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate on relations of the Church with society and the media Vakhtang Kipshidze.
Earlier on Friday the court of the Yekaterinburg diocese defrocked chiyoumen Sergius. Later, the head of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Vladimir Legoyda said that the decision must be approved by the Patriarch, after which it will enter into force.
"I would like to emphasize that the ecclesiastical court had taken all possible measures in order to encourage chiyoumen Sergius for the fact that he revised his contradictory statements, his public activities, which he believed, and probably continues to be considered preaching," said Kipshidze.
He recalled that the ruling Bishop of the Ekaterinburg diocese, acting publicly and non-publicly, has repeatedly tried to remonstrate with Sergius, urging him to take more responsibility toward his public activities, so little compatible with his Ministry in the schema, or even left it.
"However, all these appeals were ignored by shehurina Sergius, who continued on the rise to make increasingly outrageous statements, accusing the Russian Orthodox Church, abandoning the remembrance of his Holiness the Patriarch and the ruling Bishop during the service and having made thus a number of canonical crimes for which, according to the canons of the Church, the supposed deprivation of dignity, and that was done by the Church court," he added, Kipshidze.
The spiritual father and founder of Sredneuralskaya convent Abbot Sergius found himself in the spotlight after he began to speak in sermons that COVID-19 - a "pseudopodia" that Russians want to put in the "e-camp of Satan", "the wicked put on the self-isolation", deprived of "freedom and work". The diocese deprived him of his right to preach, but the cleric did not listen and continued in sermons to encourage the congregation to take to the streets and protest. Because of this ruling Bishop banned it in service.
A priest because of his public statements also filed an administrative case scheduled on July 7.
