Schroeder commented on the sanctions on the "Nord stream - 2"

The former Chancellor of Germany, Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Rosneft" and the head of Committee of shareholders of Nord Stream AG Gerhard schröder considers the impending U.S. sanctions against the "Nord stream 2" intentional termination of the transatlantic partnership, according to newspaper Handelsblatt, citing the position of the shredder for open hearings of the Committee on economy and energy of the Bundestag.

Earlier it was reported that Schroeder will take part in the open hearings of the Committee on economy and energy of the Bundestag, dedicated to the "Nord stream 2" and the energy sovereignty of Europe and Germany. The meeting will be devoted to discussion of the upcoming U.S. new sanctions against the pipeline - this is dedicated to the reports of experts who will speak at the hearings. As explained by RIA Novosti in the office of Schroeder, ex-Chancellor would not make a report, as stated in the announcement of the Committee, but will answer questions if they are asked of him. A separate interaction with the press are planned.

He warns that the financial impact of the sanctions would be very serious. "Investments of 12 billion euros in the European infrastructure would be threatened, and consumers in Europe would be faced with additional costs in the amount of four billion euros per year" - leads the publication the words of the ex-Chancellor.

Schroeder said that sanctions against a NATO ally during the economic downturn "is not that other, as a conscious avoidance of the transatlantic partnership", "assault on the European economy, an unacceptable assault on the sovereignty of the EU and energy security of Western Europe".

"Nord stream 2" involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. Against the project actively advocate USA, in the EU promoting its liquefied natural gas, as well as Ukraine and several European countries. States in December imposed sanctions against the project, demanding that the companies doing the strip, to immediately stop the construction. Swiss Allseas almost immediately announced the suspension of the gas pipeline. Russia has repeatedly stated that the project is a commercial and profitable Europe.

Earlier congressmen of the Republican and Democratic parties introduced to the U.S. house of representatives a bill to strengthen sanctions against the project of the pipeline "Nord stream 2", said a member of the house of representatives from Republicans Adam Kinzinger. In addition, at the beginning of June to the U.S. Senate was introduced another bill against the "Nord stream 2". He proposes to impose sanctions to insurers of vessels working on construction of a gas pipeline.

The German authorities are preparing retaliatory measures if the White house realizes its threat of additional sanctions against the pipeline "Nord stream 2", reported Bloomberg, citing government sources in Berlin. In an internal document, the German economy Ministry says new US sanctions may affect a substantial number of European companies and banks, and government organizations. In response, the government of Angela Merkel is considering a plan for the coordinated action of the European Union, the Agency said.
