Pompeo told about the consequences of lifting the arms embargo against Iran

U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo outlined the UN Security Council a grim picture in case of end of an embargo on arms deliveries to Iran: according to him, Tehran can use his freshly Russian aircraft to strike at Saudi Arabia, India, Italy and Poland.

"If you will not be able to take action, Iran will be able to buy made in Russia military aircraft, which can strike within a radius of three thousand kilometers, resulting in the crosshairs Iran will be cities such as Riyadh, new Delhi, Rome and Warsaw," said Pompeo in a virtual meeting of the UN security Council.

The Secretary of state did not explain why he believes that Iran will continue to threaten these countries.

"Iran will be able to expand its submarine fleet, the more threatening the international shipping and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Arabian sea," added Pompeo.

In addition, according to him, Iran will be able to acquire weapons for its allies in the middle East — Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis (Ansar Allah).

"Iran will also be able to become uncontrolled supplier of arms, supplying it to countries such as Venezuela, Syria and the far corners of Afghanistan," said Pompeo.

Iran and the six international negotiators in July 2015 reached agreement on the settlement of the longstanding problem of the Iranian atom. Months of negotiations concluded with the adoption of a joint comprehensive plan of action (SVPD), which is completely removed from Iran's previously imposed economic and financial sanctions by the UN security Council, US and EU. The agreement in particular provided that the arms embargo will be lifted on Iran within 5 years, the supply of arms possible before, but only with the permission of the UN security Council. The deal in its original form lived for three years: in may 2018, the United States announced its unilateral withdrawal from her and the restoration of tougher sanctions against Tehran. However, because of the formal deal came only USA, the rest of the participants must comply with a condition on the abolition of the arms embargo.
