The Ukrainian foreign Ministry has asked France to respond to the visit of MEPs to Crimea

Deputy foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine dzhaparova in conversation with the French Ambassador Etienne de Poncin asked about the official reaction of France to the visit of the French deputies of the European Parliament in the Crimea, has informed on Tuesday a press-service of the Ukrainian Ministry.

The visit of the delegation of French deputies of the European Parliament in Crimea scheduled for June 30 and will run until 2 July.

"First Deputy Minister (dzhaparova – ed.) drew the attention of the Ambassador to the inadmissibility of contacts of citizens of France with representatives of the occupation administration of the Russian Federation on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In this regard, Emine dzhaparova asked officially to respond to the illegal visit of the delegation of French MEPs, led by Thierry Mariani in the Crimea", - said in a statement on the Ministry website.

In turn, de Poncin assured the Ukrainian side that will give this petition to the French foreign Ministry.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which 96.77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russia. Ukraine still considers Crimea its but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Crimea issue "is closed permanently."
