Media: China's Parliament approved a law on national security in Hong Kong

The standing Committee of vsekitajsky meeting of national representatives, the highest legislative body of China, approved the national security bill in Hong Kong, said on Tuesday RTHK broadcasting Corporation, citing informed sources.

According to the RTHK, the bill was unanimously endorsed by all 162 member PC NPC. Official confirmation has yet been received.

The Corporation sources said that the maximum punishment provided by the bill, for example, the separatist activities, provides for imprisonment for much more than 10 years.

The deputies of vsekitajsky meeting of national representatives of the 13th convocation adopted on may 28, "Decision on the establishment and improvement of legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms to ensure national security in the special administrative region of Hong Kong." The resolution delegated to the standing Committee of the national people's Congress drafting bill on national security specially for Hong Kong.

The bill is still in the proposal stage provoked a storm of criticism and discontent among anti-government forces in Hong Kong and a number of Western officials who think that it undermines the autonomy of the special administrative region.

The text of the bill clearly lays down basic obligations of the Central government of China on issues related to national security and the constitutional responsibility of Hong Kong for the maintenance of national security.

The bill rules related to the prevention, suppression and punishment committed in Hong Kong for four types of crimes, including separatist activities, attempts of Subversion of state power, terrorist activities, conspiracy with foreign States, or abroad, with the aim to compromise national security.
