Belarusian opposition Statkevich was detained in a criminal case
Belarusian opposition politician Mikalay Statkevich was detained in a criminal case under article about the preparation of activities that breach public order, said on Monday his wife Maryna Adamovich.
"Mikalai Statkevich, who was supposed to be released (after serving administrative arrest for participation in an unauthorized event – ed.), "arrested on suspicion of being involved in crimes under part 1 of article 342 of the "preparation of actions that grossly violate the public order." He will be in a temporary detention center", - wrote the politician's wife in Facebook.
RIA Novosti does not yet have a review of the law enforcement agencies about the detention.
In may, he announced the filing to the CEC the lists of the initiative group to nominate himself as a presidential candidate, invited citizens to come and support him. The documents were filed, however, the CEC refused to register the initiative group Statkevich, because he has a conviction. Statkevich, who ran in 2010, the presidents of Belarus, was sentenced to six years imprisonment in the case on organization of mass riots after the presidential elections in December 2010. In 2015, he was pardoned by the incumbent President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and released. His conviction will be deemed to be repaid in 2023.
At the end of may in Grodno held a picket in support of the nomination of a presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovski, in which was detained, her husband Sergey and his supporters. The head of the investigative Committee of Belarus Ivan Nosewicz 11 June reported that the number of defendants in actions that violate public order at an election rally in Grodno, increased to ten and can still change.
The twenty-fifth of June the head of Ministry of internal Affairs of Republic Yury Karaeu reported that illegal street rallies that recently took place in Belarus in the form of "chains of solidarity", are controlled via Telegram channels and live broadcasts of "Radio Liberty" from the event. These actions were accompanied by arrests of activists. Belarusian human rights defenders was also informed of some cases of excitation of criminal cases against bloggers, in particular, under article "organization and preparation of activities that breach public order".
