"Icebreaker "Arktika" after the test will be delivered to the customer this year for one year for work on purpose in the Arctic, after which the vessel will return to the baltzavod to replace the right motor," - said Rakhmanov.

He recalled that only on the ship three electric motors with a capacity of 20 megawatts each.

"Now the total capacity of the Arctic is 52 MW instead of 60 given the fact that the defective winding of the right engine reduced its power to 8 megawatts," - said the head of the USC.

According to the developer of the project of the atomic icebreaker "Arctic", "Central design Bureau "iceberg", when run without a single engine deviations from the design characteristics of a ship will be negligible, allowing the submarine to operate effectively in the Arctic. Power of the icebreaker will be about 50 MW (instead of the designed 60 MW), the loss of icebreaking capability of up to 20 inches (2.9 meters), with a speed of 0.6 knots (22 knots in clear water).

Nuclear icebreakers of the project 22220 is the largest and powerful in the world. They are necessary to ensure Russian leadership in the Arctic. The ship's length will be 173.3 m, width - 34 meters, a displacement - 33.5 thousand tons. These icebreakers will be able to conduct convoys in Arctic conditions, punching ice up to three meters. They will provide pilotage of vessels with hydrocarbons from fields in Yamal, gydansky peninsulas and the Kara sea to the markets of the Asia-Pacific region.
