Vilfand warned about high levels of solar radiation

The European territory of Russia, as well as a number of regions in the Asian part of the country waiting for ten days to mark the "high" and "very high" index of solar ultraviolet radiation (UV index), told RIA Novosti the scientific Director of the hydrometeorological center Roman Vilfand.

As said the scientist, very high and high levels of UV index will be in the next few days in the North Caucasian and southern Federal districts, high level of UV index in most regions of the Central Federal district. High and very high levels of UV index will be in the South of Siberia.

UV index has five grades according to the degree of risk to humans: low, medium, high, very high and extreme. Each gradation has its own color, which is reflected on the map. If the level of the UV index is "high", it is necessary to use protective cream in the afternoon to stay in the shade and wear long sleeves. Under extreme index in the afternoon is better to stay home.

UV index (UVI) is an international standard for quantifying UV, developed by who, UN environment programme and the world meteorological organization. It is designed to identify possible adverse effects of the UV radiation for health and encouraging people to protect themselves. The higher the UVI, the greater the potential for harm to skin and eyes and the less time required for applying such damage. Protective means from the sun must be used when the UV index is equal to or greater than 3.
