Democrats said that out of DON may be illegal, according to media

Senate Democrats, the U.S. accused the administration of U.S. President Donald trump in violation of the law in connection with the statement of intent to withdraw from the Treaty on open skies, according to Reuters.

It is reported that in a letter to U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo and Minister of defense Mark Esper Democrats said that the administration has not sent Congress a notice 120 days prior to the start of the release process, as required by law. In a letter to the leader of the Democrats in the US Senate Chuck Schumer, and senators mark Warner and Jack reed urged the administration to immediately stop the attempts of withdrawal from the Treaty.

The Democrats also suggest that the decision trump about the release was politically motivated because it was taken a few months before the upcoming presidential elections.

Russia has denied the US charges breach of contract.

The Treaty on open skies was signed in 1992 and became one of the measures for strengthening confidence in Europe after the cold war. It has been operating since 2002 and allows the participating countries to openly gather information about military forces and activities of each other. Parties to the Treaty are 34 States.
