Lavrov and foreign Minister of Egypt discussed the situation in Libya
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov has discussed with the foreign Minister of Egypt the situation in Libya, underlining the lack of a military solution and no alternative to the cessation of hostilities, the commentary said Russian foreign Ministry on the results of a telephone conversation.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Saturday at a military base in the town of Sidi Barrani close to the border with Libya that Egypt is ready to help the Libyan tribes in the fight against foreign intervention, training and arming them. He also said that any direct interference of Egypt in Libya now has the legitimacy under international law. According to him, the "red line" for the advance of troops is the city of Sirte, about 900 kilometers from the border with Egypt and the province Dzhufra.
"The Ministers exchanged views on the situation in Libya, underlining the lack of a military solution and no alternative to immediate and sustained cessation of hostilities, parties to the conflict and start a dialogue involving all Libyan parties to agree mutually acceptable arrangements on all aspects of the settlement in line with the results of the Berlin conference", - stated in the message.
In addition, shoukry and Lavrov expressed serious concern at the impasse in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and spoke in favor of intensifying under the auspices of the United Nations the efforts of the "Quartet" of international mediators, with the leading Arab countries in the interests of the resumption of direct negotiations between the parties.
