The chief of the General staff of Greece has promised to "burn" invading the country
Chief of the General staff of national defense of Greece General Konstantinos Floros said about the readiness of the armed forces to react and prevent any action of Turkey and "burn" someone to invade the country. As the channel Open, Flores stated this during a meeting with accredited in the Ministry of defence correspondents.
"A week ago the chief of the General staff, Flores skydiving, along with other members of the armed forces, sending a message of warning Turkey. Now, talking about Turkish aggression in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, he left no doubt about how to respond to the Greek armed forces if Turkey violates Greek sovereignty - "he who sets foot on Greek land, we first burn, and then will ask who it is," - said the TV channel.
The General did not rule out the possibility of a military conflict, if Turkey crossed the "red line", believing that in this case a collision will increase.
"Military conflict is probable. No one can eliminate it. If there is something, it is not limited to a single point, it will expand immediately. It is impossible that something happened in kastellorizo and not spread everywhere", - quotes the channel of a General.
Kastellorizo is the most remote island in Greece. He was at the center of disputes between Greece and Turkey on the delimitation of Maritime zones and the determination of the exclusive economic zone. As stated by the Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu, the tiny island of kastellorizo area of 10 square kilometers, which is located two kilometers from the Turkish coast and at a distance of 570 kilometers from the Greek continental States, cannot have a continental shelf or EEZ with an area of 40 thousand square kilometers. Turkish officials find it unacceptable that the island creates a zone of Maritime jurisdiction in 4 thousand times more than its own area.
The channel calls the statement "a message of determination" in Turkey.
"Who attacked the Greek armed forces, will pay a very heavy price, and know the neighbors. (President Recep Tayyip ed.), Erdogan does what he says. And we do what we say. We know what we do and Evros (border area with Turkey - ed.) and on the Islands, and in the open sea," said the chief of staff.
The TV station also brings the words of the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the course of the EU summit on 19 June: "it is Paradoxical to discuss sanctions against Russia for Ukraine and to discuss the violation of the sovereign rights of member States of the European Union, Greece and Cyprus." Prime Minister urged to discuss this issue at the July summit, which will take place in full-time mode in Brussels.
Greece believes that Turkey is trying to assign a part of the Greek exclusive economic zone. In particular, in the government Gazette of Turkey was the publication on the provision of Turkish state-owned company trao licenses for research and exploitation of a number of marine areas, which, according to the foreign Ministry of Greece, located on the continental shelf of Greece.
Prior to that, at the end of November 2019, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Fayez Sarraj, head of the national consensus government (NTC) of Libya, controlling only a part of the country, have signed a Memorandum of cooperation in the military sphere and on mutual understanding relating to Maritime zones. In Greece called memorandums illegal and claim that they don't have any power, violating the sovereign rights of Greece. Athens is seeking from the international community recognition of their void. Turkey stated that all agreements are consistent with international law.
