Peskov: "Nord stream — 2" can strengthen the energy security of Europe.
Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov expressed hope that the project "Northern stream — 2" is completed and will ultimately contribute to strengthening Europe's energy security.
"Certainly, we hope that the project will be finalized and this project will ultimately contribute to the strengthening of energy security of the European continent", - said Peskov on air of the First channel.
"Nord stream — 2" involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. Against the project actively advocate USA, in the EU promoting its liquefied natural gas, and Ukraine, fearing to lose the transit. States in December imposed sanctions against the project, demanding that the companies doing the laying of the pipeline, to stop it immediately. Swiss Allseas almost immediately announced the suspension of work.
At the beginning of June to the U.S. Senate was introduced a new bill on sanctions against the "Nord stream — 2". He proposes to impose sanctions against insurers of ships working on the construction of a gas pipeline. The document was supported by five senators from both parties, including the influential Senator from Texas Ted Cruz.
