Kosachev: the agreement on arms must meet the interests of Russia and China
The agreement on nuclear weapons of Russia, China and the United States, if will be concluded only on the basis of sovereign interests of Moscow and Beijing, said RIA Novosti Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev.
Earlier, the special representative of the President of the United States arms control Marshall Billingsley stated that the new agreement should apply to the nuclear arsenals of Russia and China, and fully embrace them. He commented on the proposal of the Minister of foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, noting that Lithuania is a strong NATO ally and friend of the United States.
"The only thing in this comment meets reality - so it is a statement of the place of Lithuania in contemporary international relations, defined only by blind loyalty to the United States and willingness to play along with under any circumstances. Everything else will be determined not by US and not Lithuania. And will become a reality only if and only when will meet the sovereign interests of countries such as Russia and China," - said Kosachev.
The contract on reduction of strategic offensive arms (start - 3) signed on in 2010, remains the only current agreement between Russia and the USA on the limitation of armaments. The agreement expires in February 2021, while Washington has not announced any plans to renew it. The US administration at different levels emphasizes the need for the inclusion of China in the negotiation of a new trilateral nuclear agreement between Russia, China and the United States. In Beijing, this idea is rejected. The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia supports the extension of the contract about SNV-3 without preconditions.
