In the state Duma commented on the EU decision to extend sanctions against Crimea

The extension of EU sanctions against the Crimean region is a betrayal of democracy, said state Duma Deputy from the Crimea and Sevastopol Mikhail Sheremet.

The Council of the EU on Thursday agreed to extend for one year sanctions imposed in connection with joining of Crimea to Russia, - to 23 June 2021. The report notes that the EU still does not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia.

"Crimeans have become accustomed to sanctions. These sanctions we only unite and strengthen the correctness of the historical choice. From Western countries not constructive to continue a policy that does not affect public opinion, the economy and the development of the Crimea. From European countries this kind of betrayal. They all declare and present themselves as defenders of democratic principles, and themselves, in practice this democracy stifle and punish people with sanctions for their democratic choice," - said RIA Novosti Sheremet.

According to him, the sanctions policy of Western countries towards Russia is flawed and destructive.

"I hope they realize the seriousness for themselves of double standards, which they use against the Crimeans, considering Crimea like a sack of potatoes," - said the Deputy.
