Russian head versatile atomic icebreaker "Arktika" is expected to be commissioned in the state Corporation "Rosatom" in the autumn of this year, said General Director of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev.
Deadlines for "Arctic" Rosatom were previously delayed - if it was originally scheduled for may-June of 2019, then it was decided to take the icebreaker in may 2020. "Arctic" can be commissioned Rosatom with the faulty propeller motor that has failed due to short circuit and which is planned to replace the dock Kronstadt naval plant (part of USC) in 2021, wrote in March this year, the newspaper "Kommersant" with reference to sources.
Head versatile atomic icebreaker LK-60Я "Arctic" project 22220 was previously built at "Baltic shipyard" in St. Petersburg, now there is a construction of two serial nuclear icebreakers "Siberia" and "Ural". In August 2019 and baltzavod Rosatom signed a contract for construction of two serial nuclear icebreakers of this project. The cost of the contract for two more vessels amounted to 100 billion rubles. Tab of the fourth universal nuclear-powered icebreaker "Yamal" was held on may 26 this year on the "Baltic plant". The customer of construction of these nuclear submarines is the FSUE "Atomflot" ("Rosatomflot", enterprise of Rosatom).
Nuclear icebreakers of the project 22220 is the largest and powerful in the world. They are necessary to ensure Russian leadership in the Arctic. The ship's length will be 173.3 m, width - 34 meters, a displacement - 33.5 thousand tons. These icebreakers will be able to conduct convoys in Arctic conditions, punching ice up to three meters. They will provide pilotage of vessels with hydrocarbons from fields in Yamal, gydansky peninsulas and the Kara sea to the markets of the Asia-Pacific region.
